With the freedom of the Internet and the new rise in technology online, sexual predators are having an easier time contacting and soliciting children.

A security guard at the Midland Park Mall last month was arrested after he allegedly used the Internet to initiate contact with a 16-year-old local boy. Christopher Allen Derouen, 28, was charged with a first-degree felony of aggravated sexual assault of a child and a second-degree felony of sexual assault of a child.

There are tens of thousands of sexual predators using the Internet to find young victims. Many predators look at children's profiles that have pictures posted on them to start up conversations. Stories after stories have been told by those solicited who thought they were talking to someone their age and never realized that it was an adult.
